An all-round team performance helped us beat Delhi Capitals in a high-scoring Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 clash at our fortress, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on Saturday.

Opting to bowl first, Prasidh Krishna produced an outstanding spell of 4/41 as the Capitals posted 203/8 in their 20 overs.

Jos Buttler later stole the limelight with an unbeaten 97, along with contributions from Sherfane Rutherford (43) and Sai Sudharsan (36) to guide us to our fifth win in IPL 2025.

After the successful run chase, we have reclaimed the top spot in IPL 2025 points table with 10 points from seven games.

Arshad, Prasidh strike in powerplay

Our left-arm pacer, Arshad Khan, provided us with an early breakthrough as he dismissed Abishek Porel in the second over.

Later in the fifth over, Prasidh ‘Skiddy’ Krishna joined the party as he bagged the huge wicket of KL Rahul to reduce DC to 58/2.

Prasidh continues his brilliant spell

Our bowlers continued to chip away with crucial wickets as Prasidh removed Karun Nair in the ninth over.

Opposition captain Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs then stitched a 53-run stand to steady the ship for the visitors.

Our bowling spearhead, Mohammed Siraj, playing in his 100th IPL match, later broke the partnership as he dismissed Stubbs in the 15th over.

GT bowlers shine at the death

Prasidh soon bagged back-to-back wickets at the start of the 18th over as he removed Axar and Vipraj Nigam to finish with figures of 4/41 in his quota of four overs.

With four scalps, Prasidh became the new Purple Cap holder in IPL 2025 with 14 wickets in seven matches.

Meanwhile, we continued our impressive bowling display at the death as Ishant Sharma got rid of Donovan Ferreira, while Sai Kishore got the better of Ashutosh Sharma as DC ended with 203/8 in their 20 overs.

Sai-Su, Buttler on the charge

Chasing 204, Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler got us off to a blazing start despite losing captain Shubman Gill early. Sai-Su and Buttler played some scintillating shots as our duo forged a quick-fire 50-run stand. Courtesy of their outstanding partnership, we were 67/1 at the end of the powerplay.

Buttler, Rutherford keep the momentum

With 362 runs in seven games, Sai-Su reclaimed the Orange Cap before he departed for a well-made 36 in the eighth over.

Batting at No.4, Sherfane Rutherford joined Buttler at the crease. Rutherford and Buttler continued the assault which kept us in the hunt.

Later in the 13th over, Rutherford clobbered Mohit Sharma for consecutive sixes before Butter also hammered a four to notch up his third fifty of the season. With the boundary, our swashbuckling pair brought up their 50-run partnership.

Back on top in IPL 2025

In the following over, Buttler smashed Mitchell Starc for five consecutive fours to put us in a commanding position.

Butter and Rutherford continued their brilliant display as our duo brought up their century stand in the 17th over.

However, their incredible 119-run stand ended in the penultimate over as Rutherford fell for 43.

With 10 needed off the final over, Rahul Tewatia, who was also playing in his 100th IPL game, clobbered Starc for a maximum and followed it up with a boundary to guide us to our fifth win in IPL 2025.

We will now aim to continue our winning momentum against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens on Monday.
