India and England head to Rajkot for the third T20I, with the hosts eyeing a series-clinching win.
India have made a strong start to the 5-match T20I series against England, winning the first two games. Just one win away from sealing the series, the hosts look confident. Abhishek Sharma starred with the bat and Varun Chakaravarthy dazzled with the ball in the opener, while Tilak Varma’s composure secured a thrilling win in the second match despite England’s fightback.
Highlights of the 2nd T20I
In the second T20I, India chose to bowl first, and Arshdeep Singh struck early, removing Phil Salt for 4 in the opening over. Washington Sundar followed, dismissing Ben Duckett for just 3.
Jos Buttler continued his fine form with a solid 45, anchoring England’s innings alongside Harry Brook. However, Varun Chakaravarthy struck again, removing Brook with a brilliant delivery. England’s momentum dipped after Buttler’s departure, with Axar Patel dismissing Liam Livingstone (13) and Abhishek Sharma accounting for Jamie Smith (22 off 12). Brydon Carse’s quick-fire 31 off 17 helped England post 165/9 in 20 overs.
India’s Chase
India’s chase got off to a shaky start, losing Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson early to slip to 19/2. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma steadied the innings with a 39-run stand before SKY departed, leaving India struggling at 78/5.
Washington Sundar’s vital 26 kept India in the hunt, but his dismissal left plenty to do. Tilak Varma then took charge, anchoring the innings with a calm and composed unbeaten 72* off 55 balls. Guiding the tail, he steered India to a thrilling final-over victory and a 2-0 series lead.
Looking Ahead
India are yet to field Mohammad Shami in the series, but this could be a chance to give him game time ahead of the ODIs. However, with the team in strong form, significant changes seem unlikely as they look to seal the series first.
The next match in Rajkot, known for its batter-friendly pitch with consistent bounce and pace, promises a high-scoring contest. While India aim to clinch the series, England will fight to stay alive. An exciting clash awaits!
