India lifted the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 after a hard-fought four-wicket victory over New Zealand in the final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday. A composed innings from Rohit Sharma and a nerveless finish by Ravindra Jadeja sealed the win with six balls to spare, capping off an unbeaten campaign for the Men in Blue.

Opting to bat first, New Zealand posted a competitive 251/7 in their 50 overs. Daryl Mitchell anchored the innings with a patient 63 off 101 balls, while Will Young and Rachin Ravindra set the foundation with a brisk 57-run opening stand. However, India’s bowlers, led by Kuldeep Yadav (2/40) and Varun Chakaravarthy (2/45), kept the scoring in check, ensuring the Kiwis never quite ran away with the game.

In response, India started confidently, with Rohit Sharma (76 off 83) and Shubman Gill putting together a fluent 105-run partnership.

“For most time, I sat back and enjoyed Rohit's batting,” said Shubman.

“He told me doesn't matter how the scoreboard gap is, the aim was to bat till the end. Seeing the intensity with which he plays is amazing. He keeps telling us to give it everything and backs it up.”

Shreyas Iyer then added a steady 48 off 62 balls, followed by Axar Patel’s 29 off 40, as India remained in control for most of the chase.

Just as victory seemed within reach, New Zealand struck back. Kyle Jamieson’s dismissal of Hardik Pandya injected fresh tension into the contest, momentarily shifting momentum in the Black Caps’ favor. But with the pressure mounting, Ravindra Jadeja remained calm, guiding India home with a quick-fire 9*, including the winning runs that sent the Indian fans into celebration.

India’s victory not only secured another ICC title but also reaffirmed their dominance, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament.

With this win, India added another ICC trophy to their decorated cabinet, having previously won the Champions Trophy in 2002 (shared) and 2013.
