The Indian Women’s cricket team for the 2024 T20 World Cup, which kicks off on October 3, has been announced. Their first match is scheduled against New Zealand Women on October 4 in Dubai. The tournament was originally planned to be held in Bangladesh, but due to protests in the country, it was relocated to the UAE.

India Women find themselves in a tough group, facing formidable opponents like Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. India’s squad closely mirrors the team that reached the final of the Women’s Asia Cup in July 2024. The squad has only one change: Yastika Bhatia returns to the team, replacing Uma Chetry. However, Yastika Bhatia and Shreyanka Patil's participation will depend on their fitness. Shreyanka is currently recovering from a fractured finger she sustained during the Asia Cup. The traveling reserves for the T20 World Cup include Tanuja Kanwer, Uma Chetry, and Saima Thakor.

Harmanpreet Kaur will continue to captain the side, with Smriti Mandhana as her vice-captain. The bowling attack is led by Renuka Singh and Pooja Vastrakar, with spinners Deepti Sharma, Radha Yadav, and Shreyanka Patil sure to play crucial roles.

India Women have been part of every T20 World Cup since the tournament's inception in 2009. Although they are yet to claim the title, they came agonizingly close in 2020 when they lost to Australia Women by 85 runs in front of a record crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

With the 2024 T20 World Cup just around the corner, the Indian Women’s team is determined to push past previous hurdles and aim for their first-ever title.
