Our Titans produced a complete team performance to defeat the Mumbai Indians by 36 runs and register our first win of the Indian Premier League 2025 season on Saturday.

Put in to bat first at the Narendra Modi Stadium, we rode on Sai Sudharsan’s 63 off just 41 balls to post 196/8 in our allotted overs.

Our star pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna later picked up two wickets each to help us restrict MI to 160/6 in their 20 overs to help us open our account in IPL 2025.

Shubman, Sai-Su provide blitz start

Our opening pair of captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan got us off to a brilliant start. The two played some scintillating shots to accumulate 66 runs at the end of the powerplay.

Meanwhile, our Captain Gill completed the incredible milestone of 1000 runs at our fortress, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, before he departed for a well-made 38 off 27 balls.

Buttler, Sudharsan continue the onslaught

Batting at No.3, Jos Buttler took little time to settle as he clobbered Mitchell Santner for a maximum and followed it up with a boundary in the 10th over. Buttler continued his attacking game and was ably supported by Sudharsan. Our dynamic duo’s 51-run partnership ended as Buttler departed for a quick 24-ball 39.

Sai-Su’s knock powers Titans to 196

Later in the 15th over, Sai-Su notched up back-to-back fifties in IPL 2025, this time off just 33 balls.

Looking to up the ante, southpaws Sherfane Rutherford and Sudharsan then hammered MI pacer Satyanarayana Raju for 19 runs in the 17th over.

In the following over, Sudharsan’s 63-run knock came to an end. His knock was laced with four fours and two maximums.

Courtesy of Sudharsan’s dazzling knock, we managed to post 196/8 in our 20 overs despite losing the likes of Rahul Tewatia, Rutherford, Rashid Khan and Sai Kishore in the final few overs.

Miyan’s double strike rocks MI

Defending 196, our speedster Mohammed Siraj provided us a huge breakthrough as he cleaned up Rohit Sharma (8) in the opening over of our defence.

Siraj continued his impressive spell as he removed Ryan Rickelton (6) to reduce MI to 35/2 in 4.3 overs.

After losing both their openers, Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav stitched a partnership for the visitors.

Prasidh, Kishore provide crucial breakthroughs

Later in the 12th over, Prasidh ‘Skiddy’ Krishna got the much-needed breakthrough as he dismissed Titak to end their 62-run stand.

The Titans continued to chip away with wickets as our left-arm spinner Sai Kishore got the better of Robin Minz in the very next over.

First W of the season

Prasidh claimed his second wicket, dismissing Suryakumar in the 16th over. The visitors kept losing wickets, with captain Hardik Pandya falling to Rabada in the 17th over.

From there on, our boys restricted the MI batting line-up to guide us to our first win of the season.

For his match-winning spell of 2/18, Krishna was adjudged the Player of the Match.

“I was actually itching to bowl,” Krishan said. “We were sitting and watching how the first innings went. So we understood that cutters into the wicket were working well. I just figured that it was working well so I didn't want to test the speed gun and tried to keep it simple.”

After an emphatic victory at our fortress, we will now face Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday.

Brief Scores: Gujarat Titans 196/8 in 20 overs (Sai Sudharsan 63, Jos Buttler 39; Hardik Pandya 2/29) beat Mumbai Indians 160/6 in 20 overs (Suryakumar Yadav 48, Tilak Varma 39; Prasidh Krishna 2/18) by 36 runs.
