It was just not our night! Twin fifties from captain Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler went in vain as we lost to Rajasthan Royals in a high-scoring Indian Premier League 2025 clash at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday.

Put in to bat, captain Shubman Gill led from the front with 84 off 50 balls, while Buttler’s blitz of an unbeaten 26-ball 50, and Sai Sudharsan’s quick-fire 39 powered us to 209/4 in our 20 overs.

Despite best efforts from our bowlers, the Royals chased down the target in 15.5 overs in Jaipur.

Gill, Sai-Su provide brilliant start

Skipper Shubman Gill and Sai Sudharsan once again got us off to an excellent start. Gill and Sudharsan played some scintillating shots as we scored 53/0 in the first six overs.

Meanwhile, Sai-Su reclaimed the Orange Cap after he surpassed Virat Kohli (443) on the list of most runs in IPL 2025.

Captain Gill notches up another fifty

Gill and Sudharsan continued to pile on the runs as our swashbuckling pair slammed Riyan Parag for 14 runs in the seventh over, and then accumulated 13 runs off Yudhvir Singh’s second over.

Later in the 10th over, captain Gill brought up his back-to-back fifties, this time off just 29 balls. Our magnificent 93-run opening stand came to an end in the following over as Sudharsan fell for a well-made 39.

Batting at No.3, Buttler joined Gill at the crease. Gill continued the onslaught as he clobbered Yudhvir for two maximums to amass 15 runs in the 14th over.

Buttler’s fireworks power us to 209

In the next over, Buttler soon joined the party as he hammered Wanindu Hasaranga for three sixes and a four to rack up 24 runs.

Looking to up the ante, Gill missed his century as he departed for 84 in the 17th over. His outstanding knock was laced with five fours and four maximums.

Buttler and Washington Sundar continued the momentum as our duo smashed Jofra Archer for 19 runs in the following over.

While we lost Sundar and Rahul Tewatia in the final overs, Buttler notched up his fourth fifty this season to guide us to 209.

Prasidh breaks opening partnership

Defending 209, our bowlers were off to a challenging start as Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Yashasvi Jaiswal added 166 runs for the opening wicket.

Later in the 12th over, Prasidh ‘Skiddy’ Krishna provided us with the much-needed breakthrough as he cleaned up Suryavanshi for 101.

Rashid produces outstanding spell

In the absence of Gill on the field, our stand-in captain Rashid Khan soon trapped Nitish Rana in front of the stumps to reduce the Royals to 171/2 in the 13th over. Our spin wizard ended his spell with impressive figures of 4-0-24-1 in Jaipur.

Not our day, we will bounce back

Despite valiant efforts from our bowlers, Jaiswal (70 not out) and opposition captain Riyan Parag (32 not out) later stitched an unbeaten 41-run stand for the hosts to guide them to an eight-wicket win.

With 12 points from nine matches, we will aim to quickly bounce against Sunrisers Hyderabad at our fortress, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, on Friday.

Brief Scores: Gujarat Titans 209/4 in 20 overs (Shubman Gill 84, Jos Buttler 50 not out; Maheesh Theekshana 2/35) lost to Rajasthan Royals 212/2 in 15.5 overs (Vaibhav Suryavanshi 101, Yashasvi Jaiswal 70 not out; Rashid Khan 1/24) by 8 wickets.
