India couldn't have hoped for a better start to the T20I series, comfortably winning the opening match against South Africa in Durban. After a disappointing 3-0 Test series loss at home to New Zealand, India needed this win to get back on track, and it should be a major confidence boost for the team as they look to build momentum.

The match was all about Sanju Samson’s sensational performance. He became the first Indian to score back-to-back centuries in T20 internationals, displaying a remarkable mix of power and skill. Samson smashed 10 sixes on his way to an explosive 107 off just 50 balls. He played some beautiful shots, attacking South Africa’s bowlers from the start and setting the stage for a high-scoring total. Supporting Samson was Tilak Varma, who contributed a handy 33, keeping the score ticking. India looked on track to reach well above 220, but South Africa’s bowlers made a strong comeback in the final overs, restricting India to 202 for 8.

In South Africa’s chase, Arshdeep Singh provided India with the ideal start by dismissing Aiden Markram in the very first over. Avesh Khan then stepped in and took the wicket of Tristan Stubbs, further pushing South Africa on the back foot. Ryan Rickelton had just started to look dangerous, but Varun Chakaravarthy sent him back. He picked up 3 crucial wickets which included the scalps of the dangerous Heinrich Klaasen and David Miller. Ravi Bishnoi was equally effective, also claiming 3 wickets and keeping the pressure on South Africa. Though Gerald Coetzee managed a few powerful hits towards the end, it was too late for South Africa, and they fell short by 61 runs.

With three games left in the series, India have set the tone with this comprehensive win, but South Africa won’t go down without a fight.
